Summer Intensive Program at Colorado Ballet

Colorado Ballet offers a four-week intensive dance program for intermediate to advanced level classical ballet dancers (ladies must have completed at least one year of concentrated pointe training). Students ages 11 and up, will participate in approximately eight hours of dancing each day.

Daily classes typically run from 10am-5:15pm Monday through Friday and include ballet, jazz, modern and variations. Students will present an in-studio performance on the final day of the program. Faculty includes: Elizabeth Gaither, principal dancer with The Washington Ballet; Igor Vassine, former principal dancer of Colorado Ballet for over 17 seasons; Maria Mosina, Colorado Ballet principal dancer; and the outstanding artistic faculty of Colorado Ballet and the Academy.

Housing

Student housing is available for participants of all ages at Campus Village Apartments on the Auraria Campus, located at 318 Walnut St. Denver, CO.  Campus Village is located approximately 1.5 miles from the Colorado Ballet studios.  Students under the age of 18 participating in our housing will be supervised at all times.

All students may check-in the night before the start of the program on June 17th, 2012 from 3pm-5pm. There will be a Welcome Meeting at 5:30pm and will have an optional group dinner following the meeting. Please visit our Summer Housing page for more information.

Application Process

Summer Intensive Program Application

Admission to the Summer Intensive Program is by audition only. Applicants may audition in person or submit a high-quality DVD or video. Auditions by video must include one classical ballet variation, with the option of barre and center work at the end of the video. Ladies over the age of 13 must include a variation on pointe or pointe work.  Deadline for video audition is February 1, 2012.

A limited amount of scholarship assistance are available. Scholarship applications should be received with the summer intensive program application.

Once accepted, please download and complete the ACCEPTANCE PACKET and return it to Phoebe Coleman, Academy Administrative Coordinator.

DVD/Video Auditions - Can't make an audition in person? Submit a DVD!

If you are unable to attend our auditions in New York or Colorado, please mail your application, resume (optional), dance photo, DVD and $30 audition fee to:

Deadline for high-quality DVD/Video auditions is February 13, 2012 (new extension!). All applicants, either by in person or by DVD audition, will have equal chance of acceptance to our program.

All applicants will receive an emailed or hard-copy audition result letter by February 14, 2012. Upon acceptance to the Summer Intensive Program a non-refundable tuition deposit of $300 is due by March 1, to reserve a place in the program. If you will be participating in our program's housing, an additional $300 non-refundable housing deposit is also due by March 1. All balances must be paid by June 18th, 2012.

SIP Chaperone Opportunities

Interested in chaperoning for SIP? Please read the job description and apply to Phoebe Coleman at Colorado Ballet. When applying, please include a cover letter and resume (electronic versions must be in PDF format). A $2,000 stipend and other compensations will be made. Please refer to the job description for compensation details. The position includes a private room and suite at the Campus Village Apartments. The chaperone may be responsible for dormitory SIP students, as well as the dormitory Intermediate Ballet Summer Intensive students (ages 8-11).

Chaperone applicants will be interviewed in January through February. Please feel free to follow up via email with Phoebe Coleman if you have not heard by March.
